Sustainable Agriculture

We strive to meet the present day food needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

We utilize such sustainable practices as mixing our own seed starting soil, companion planting, cover crops, rotational plantings, and row cover to improve soil and reduce weed and pest pressure while maintaining high nutritional produce quality.

Farm Markets

Provides healthy, natural produce to the local community without the damaging impact of large-scale transportation.

Care for Creation

The Sisters of the Redeemer are committed to eco-spirituality and sustainable farming practices.

For many decades, the Sisters tended the land—a large garden and animals provided food not only for the Sisters, but for those in their care.

Animals

Redeemer Valley Farm is home to a wide variety of animals including goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, dogs and cats.

Using milk from our goats we handcraft soaps and lotions.  Our chickens move into the garden at the end of growing season to redistribute their droppings and add nutrients to the soil.

Let all creation help you to praise God. Give yourself the rest you need. When you are walking alone, listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, the sun and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to proclaim the greatness of the one who has given them being.

Saint Paul of the Cross

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.

– Psalm 104:24

As the desire to get to know God better and to love him more grew daily within me, I tried to practice myself more and more in prayer. For this exercise I loved no place better than the fields. I could meditate the sky and also the flowers in the field, which both awakened me to love God.

Blessed Alphonse Maria Eppinger, Founder of the Sisters of the Redeemer

Our insistence that each human being is an image of God should not make us overlook the fact that each creature has its own purpose. None is superfluous. The entire material universe speaks of God’s love, his boundless affection for us. Soil, water, mountains: everything is, as it were, a caress of God.

Laudato Si’ 84

Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.

Laudato Si’ 217

A well cultivated garden, of which the soil is good and the orientation favorable, produces beautiful fruit.

Blessed Alphonse Maria Eppinger, Founder of the Sisters of the Redeemer

We are here to awaken from our illusion of separateness.

– Thich Nhat Hanh

There is something of the marvelous in all things of nature.

Aristotle

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy amidst the simple beauty of nature.

Anne Frank

One should pay attention to even the smallest crawling creature for these too may have a valuable lesson to teach us.

Black Elk

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
